PRAGUE (Czech Republic) | Friday, November 9, 2018 ---- Petra Kvitova was invited on court for a special gift presentation from her sponsor, Tag Heuer. In Prague for the upcoming Fed Cup final, the brand ambassador was given a gift and a painted picture of herself, and all seemed to be business as usual. She was then introduced to the artist of the portrait, Hubert Schmidt, who looked a little... familiar Kvitova expected a casual hit-and-giggle type of rally when she was asked to hit with the painter, who was dressed in old-fashioned clothing and even played with a wood racquet. "He's pretty good," Kvitova said as the man hit a few winners. Turns out, Schmidt was actually an undercover Tomas Berdych. Kvitova figured it out along the way -maybe the ace down the T gave it away. The world No. 7 is meant to lead the Czech Republic in the Fed Cup final against the United States, but an illness has kept her out of the original lineup. She was recently announced as the Fed Cup Heart Award winner. The 28-year-old donated the $10,000 check to the hospital that saved her left hand, which was injured in an armed robbery in 2016.

The No. 3 seed, who has reached back-to-back Wimbledon semi-finals, had not lost five consecutive matches since the end of 2004 through the beginning of 2005, when he dropped six in a row. At the time, the Czech was just 19 years old. But he bounced back on the Stuttgart grass, dropping just six first-serve points and saving the only break point he faced to move past the World No. 47. "It was a tough one. He's a very talented player. You really don't know until the last moment what's going to come up. He's very talented, all the shots he can make. Enjoy 42 Photos of Tomas Berdych. French Open ROLAND GARROS Round 1 Wednesday, May 30, 2018 ---- What a difference a day makes --- Yes, it's a song title. And we were reminded of the Esther Philips hit from 1975 during the match on centre court between Jeremy Chardy and Tomas Berdych. It started on day three when Chardy won the first two sets. The match was stopped in the gloaming with the score at 1-1 in the third set. When they came back to the fray on day four, Chardy had four points to break Berdych's serve. He could not convert and the 17th seed held to take a 2-1 lead. We knew what was coming. Chardy lost his own serve to trail 3-1, Berdych held 4-1, Chardy lost his serve again and Berdych had the third set 6-1. He could have had the fourth when he served for it at 5-4 up but he fluffed that chance. Not to be outdone, Chardy promptly handed Berdych back the advantage by losing his own serve. On the second time of asking we were at two sets apiece after three hours and 43 minutes. But the home crowds were kept happy when Chardy surged away to take the decider 6-2. It was his first win over the Czech in six attempts. (Pierre René-Worms/RFI)

The tournament is one of the three ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events contested on clay, but the event is more than just tennis; it is a total entertainment experience. High fashion, fine food, fabulous shopping and celebrity musical performances have made the tournament one of the most glamorous stops on the ATP World Tour. Rafael Nadal has won a record seven titles in Rome.

Shapovalov won 1-6, 6-3, 7-6(5). MATCH REPORT - Denis Shapovalov came back from one set down to beat number 15 seed and 2013 semifinalist Tomas Berdych in a final set tie-break 1-6 6-3 7-6 (7-5) in one of the most intriguing matches of the Tuesday programme of the BNL Internazionali d'Italia at the Foro Italico in Rome. It was a clash between two different generations, a veteran player on one side and a Next Gen star on the other side. Berdych and Shapovalov met for the second time in their careers one year after their first head-to-head clash at the Queen's, where the Czech veteran beat his younger rival 7-5 in the third set. Berdych broke twice in the second and fourth games to race out to a 5-0 lead in the opening set, as Shapovalov made forehand errors. Shapovalov failed to convert two break points at 1-5, before Berdych wrapped up the first set on his third set point after 37 minutes. Shapovalov bounced back by breaking serve in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead after Berdych netted a forehand. The Canadian world number 29 player converted his third set point in a seven-minute ninth game at 5-3, when Berdych hit a crosscourt backhand into the net. Berdych rallied from 0-30 down by winning four consecutive points at 4-4 in the third set to hold serve. The Czech player came within two points in the next game but Shapvalov bounced back to force the third set to the tie-break. Shapovalov reeled off the first four points of the tie-break, but Berdych won five of the next six points to draw level to 5-5. Shapovalov won the final two points to clinch a tight match. Shapovalov made 36 winners to 52 unforced errors.

2018 MADRID Round 1 - Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 14h30 Manolo Santana Court - Richard Gasquet entered his first-round match in Madrid having lost six of his past seven FedEx ATP Head2Head meetings against No. 14 seed Tomas Berdych, with all of those battles coming since 2015. But you wouldn't have known by the way the Frenchman performed at the Caja Mágica, ousting the Czech 6-4, 6-2 in 76 minutes. The Monte-Carlo quarter-finalist showed his good form, avenging a loss he suffered at the same tournament against Berdych three years ago. Berdych still leads their series 9-8, including victories in five of their nine matchups at ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events.

Monday, April 16, 2018 MONTE-CARLO Round 1 ---- Japan's Kei Nishikori fought back from a set down to see off Czech 12th seed Tomas Berdych and reach the Monte Carlo Masters second round. In a battle of two former Grand Slam finalists, Nishikori raced through the final two sets to progress with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory. The former world number four, who is now ranked 36th, missed a large part of last season with a right wrist injury and started his 2018 campaign in American second-tier Challenger Tour events. But he was close to his best against Berdych, despite making a slow start. Berdych moved into a 4-1 lead en route to the opening set, but Nishikori moved into another gear and claimed four straight games to level the match. The deciding set was even more one-sided, as two breaks to love helped the 28-year-old to his best win of the season so far.

2018 INDIAN WELLS (R1=Bye) R2 Tomas Berdych def. Maximilian Marterer
Czech Plus: Berdych Rolls into Second Round --- When you're more than a decade and a half into your professional tennis career, the 'R' word starts to get tossed around a bit, both in hushed tones around the locker room and in pointed questions in the press room. That's been the case for Tomas Berdych, who after 13 singles titles, a run of seven straight Top-10 finishes, and a trip to the 2010 Wimbledon final is at a stage when the idea of retirement is perhaps beginning to come into focus. But the Czech, now 32, says he's not quite ready to walk away. ''That's the beauty of our sport - no matter where you are, you still have a big chance,'' said the No. 15-ranked Berdych earlier this year.'' It's about that particular day, and from that one day you can create a great week. From one great week, you can make it two. To be honest, that's the only reason why I'm still around. 2018 AUSTRALIAN OPEN Tomas Berdych lost to Roger Federer
ATP NEWS | MATCH REPORT Wednesday, January 14, 2018 --- Tomas Berdych held two set points in the first set of his quarter-final loss to Roger Federer at the Australian Open --- Two-time semi-finalist held two set points for a one-set lead versus Federer Tomas Berdych's search for a first Grand Slam title goes on after losing to Roger Federer for the third consecutive year at the Australian Open. The two-time semi-finalist at Melbourne Park looked in great form as he led the 19-time major championship winner 5-2 in the first set, twice holding set point, but could not convert as he watched his lead, and grip on the match, slip away. Shorty after the match, the Czech No. 1 revealed his thoughts on a critical first set and the affect it had on the result. ''It was a good start,'' said Berdych. ''I had good chances, a couple of set points. I think he just got more confident after he saved the first set. Then it was very difficult with him again. After having been basically a whole set down, it gives you a [big] boost [to come back]. Especially with him, I think it was just the deciding thing. Everything is 'if'. But winning a first set would be a completely different story.'' The long-time rivals were contesting a staggering 10th meeting at Grand Slam level, which is tied-fourth for most meetings at the four Grand Slam events. Only matches between Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have been more frequent at the Grand Slams in the Open Era. Now in his 17th year as a professional, with 13 tour-level titles to his name, Berdych has a plethora of experience playing against the biggest names on the grandest of stages. But, after facing Federer for the 26th time, the finalist at The 2010 Championships at Wimbledon had the simplest of explanations for his loss. ''I faced the best opponent that you can have,'' admitted Berdych. ''I played a good match, but I didn't play my best. When I played my best [in the past], I was able to beat him. That's what not happened today.'' Quick to put the disappointment of losing the match, after missing a great opportunity, in perspective, the 32-year-old described his emotions. ''It's not the best feeling. But there are still worse ones,'' said Berdych. ''That's how it is. I mean, one day you're winning, one day you're losing. It was the key of the match.'' After cutting his 2017 season short after the China Open in October due to back troubles, Berdych has a lot to be positive about moving forward in 2018. ''I'm not leaving with [my] head down. I think it was a very good tournament. After what I've been through at the end of the last season, I'm very pleased with that.'' The World No. 20 will rise in the next edition of the ATP Rankings, published on Monday.

2018 AUSTRALIAN OPEN Quarter-Final - TV CAPTURES (75) Tomas Berdych lost to Roger Federer
2018 AUSTRALIAN OPEN Tomas Berdych vs Roger Federer QF, Rod Laver Arena, 24 January 2018. Federer won 7-6(1), 6-3, 6-4. --- How The Australian Open Quarter-Final Was Won --- First Set --- Berdych started aggressively to win the first three games, and didn't put a foot wrong until the ninth game. But as the Czech served for the first set at 5-3, Federer appeared to be rattled, yet was subtly able to raise his game. The pressure began to tell and Berdych lost three of his first four service points, but recovered only to squander a set point chance. Federer broke on his fourth break point, then, when serving in the next game, made a subtle change of pace on a forehand at 30/40. Berdych's eyes lit up. Needing to generate pace, the Czech struck a backhand long and a second set point opportunity disappeared. Federer refocused in the tie-break to win the first three points and clinched the 60-minute opener with a sliced backhand drop shot winner. Overall, Federer lost just three of his first-service points (25/28) and hit 24 winners in the set. --- Second Set --- Berdych, contesting the 200th Grand Slam championship match of his career, gave himself an opportunity in the third game of the second set, when Federer was serving at 30/40. But the Swiss star, with improved court position, remained aggressive and ripped a backhand winner down the line. As the set wore on, Federer pounced, coming to the net to strike a backhand body shot at 4-3, with Berdych serving at 15/40. Federer soon calmly held to 15 to remain on course for his ninth straight victory over Berdych. --- Third Set --- The writing appeared to be on the wall for Berdych when a Hawk-Eye challenge on break point at 1-1, went Federer's way. Federer gave a wry smile as the big screen showed the ball had clipped the line by a small margin. But credit to Berdych, the 2014 and 2015 semi-finalist, when he broke back immediately with a return winner. Federer subsequently raised his game once more with a third successive service break, after a backhand winner. From that moment on, Federer lost only one point in his next three service games. He has yet to lose a set at this year's championship.
