Easy going: Tomas Berdych stormed into the third round with a straight-set win over Marcel Granollers on Wednesday. He will next face Juan Monaco who beat Gael Monfils after the Frenchman retired with the score at 6-2 3-0. Monfils retires in Madrid with cheese allergy. He had mistakenly eaten some cheese, which he is allergic to. Monfils was really sick and said he experienced dizziness and blurred vision.

Andy Murray was beaten in straight sets by Thomaz Bellucci. Berdych will now play Bellucci, the world Nr. 36 in the quarter-finals.
Safarova storms into Last Eight
Lucie Safarova kept up her impressive form by defeating Jarmila Gajdosova in the last match of the day on the Court No. 3, 6-3 6-3."Last year I reached the semifinals here in Madrid, so it's great to be back in the quarters," Safarova said. "Today was a tough match to play as Jarka is a friend of mine, but I served really well and am happy with the result."Lucie will face No.4 seed Victoria Azarenka in Friday's quarterfinals. Azarenka leads Safarova in their head-to-head, 5-0 but they haven't played against each other on clay in four years.
