H2H Tomas Berdych vs Jiri Vesely
Order of Play - R2 DOHA - Court 3 Wednesday, January 4, 2017
MATCH REPORT (no livestream match on Court 3)
Tomas Berdych and fellow Czech Jiri Vesely met for the 4th time on the ATP Tour, with Berdych winning 7-6 1-6 6-1. The result in sets number 2 and 3 is a rather strange when we know how good they can serve and after that opener in which they created just one break point! In the first set, both players were on a high level, using their serve to dictate the points on this fast hard court and the only break chance came in game 3 but Vesely failed to convert it. Berdych took the tie break 7-5, he was 5-4 down before he won the next two return points to change the scoreboard into his favor. Out of sudden, his game collapsed in set number 2, Vesely exploited his second serve on a big scale and he broke in game 4 and 6 to clinch the second set by a powerful 6-1. The momentum was now on younger Czech's side but Berdych played numerous matches like this in the past, so he used his experience to just reset himself and make a brand new start in set number 3. This time, he was the one who controlled the rallies and got the most from his return (Vesely won just one point behind his second serve), building a 5-0 lead and getting over the top a few minutes later to make the quarter-final berth.
