H2H Berdych/Giannessi - It's a first meeting

Czech third seed Berdych is set to play Italian qualifier Alessandro Giannessi in the final fixture of the evening at the centre court. Berdych had won the title at the ATP Shenzen towards the end of last season before proving to be a dud at the ATP Tokyo, the Shanghai Masters and the ATP Vienna as he was eliminated in the first round at each tournament. However, he raised his game to reach the quarterfinals at the Paris Masters before being downed by the eventual champion, Murray.

Giannessi beat Mousa Shanan Zayed and Mirza Basic in the two qualifiers to gain access to the main draw here. He was the finalist at the Ortisei Challenger last season which also happened to be the Italian’s last outing in 2016.

Although they have never met in the past, Berdych will start as the favourite to claim his first win of the season on Tuesday.
