In doubles action, the Czech team of Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek defeated the world's top-ranked team of Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic 6-4, 4-6, 10-8. Berdych steps around his backhand and smacks a return winner up the line to give the Czechs the match.

Congrats Tomas and Radek, after reading this, I had no high expectation...

Daniel Nestor (CAN) & Nenad Zimonjic (SRB) began playing together as a full-time team in 2008, and have earned 20 titles together in that time.  Nestor, who teamed for many years with Mark Knowles, has a career total of 69 doubles titles, while his partner has won 37. Their five 2010 titles to date include the French Open and the ATP World Tour 1000 Masters events in Monte Carlo. But it was their win in Paris – their third Grand Slam title together – which resulted in them reclaiming the No. 1 team spot over the Bryans.

ATP World Tour Doubles - Week 31

Nestor/Zimonjic upset in first round

by ATP Staff  |   03.08.2010

The No. 1 doubles team of Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic suffered a first-round loss Tuesday at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington, falling to Czechs Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.

Berdych and Stepanek, both seeded in the singles draw this week at the ATP World Tour 500 tennis tournament, have teamed up primarily in the Davis Cup competition over the past couple of years. They led the Czech Republic to the final last year (l. to Spain).

Nestor and Zimonjic, semi-finalists on their last visit to Washington, dropped their opening match for just the fourth time this season. They won their fifth title of 2010 in June, when they defended the Roland Garros crown, and were playing in their first tournament since a second-round exit at Wimbledon (l. to Eaton/Inglot).
