Positive first match for Tomas Berdych in Marseille. The Czech struggled very much to beat Alexander Zverev, who lost 6/3 3/6 7/5. In the third and decisive set, the No. 2 seed, after saving a dangerous break point; broke Zverev in the sixth game closing the game at the net. Down 2-5 15-40, Zverev saved two match points with an ace and an unforced error by the Czech. It's to Berdych to end this match on 5-3, but 2013 finalist made three unforced and got broken. On 5-all, a new break point would have allowed Zverev to serve for the match, but Berdych was good to save it with a powerful forehand winner. On 6-5 Zverev does not handle pressure and makes three unforced errors. Berdych qualifies for the quarter-finals and will face David Goffin.
