July 14, 2010 - No. 1 seed and local favorite Lucie Safarova withdrew Wednesday from the $220,000 Prague Open, citing a hamstring injury.
Safarova was to have gone against Johanna Larsson in a second-round match but said the left leg injury was too painful to allow her to play. Larsson received a walkover into Friday's quarterfinals where she will go against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.
Safarova, who beat Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia 6-4, 7-5 in the opening round, says her thigh was hurt before the tournament and got worse after Tuesday's match.
Safarova will rest until a medical check determines whether she will be able to join the hard-court season in the United States.
