Fifth-ranked Tomas Berdych will be the No. 1 seed in the Citi Open field
THE WASHINGTON POST
With the addition of fifth-ranked Tomas Berdych, the men’s field for next week’s Citi Open will now boast seven of the top 20 players on the ATP Tour.
The Czech will be the tournament’s top seed when play begins Monday. No. 6 Milos Raonic of Canada and No. 9 Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, both Wimbeldon semifinalists, will also be among the top seeds at the William H.G. Fitzgerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park.
“The addition of Berdych to the tournament roster alongside other top ten players, Raonic and Dimitrov, speaks to the incredible strength of this year’s men’s player field,” said tournament director Jeff Newman in a statement. “With three elite top-10 players now, fans are in for a real treat.”
Berdych won his ninth title earlier this year in Rotterdam. He last played in the Citi Open in 2010, the top seed in the tournament then, too.
