The Czech Republic hold a 2-0 lead over Croatia after a marathon first day of their Davis Cup semi-final.
Radek Stepanek edged an epic tussle with Ivo Karlovic that took a minute shy of six hours but featured just one break point, winning 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (2-7) 16-14.
Tomas Berdych then surrendered a 2-0 lead before eventually beating Marin Cilic in three hours and 48 minutes.
