Tomas Berdych climbs up world rankings after China Open win
Novak Djokovic of Serbia maintained a big lead in the latest ATP tennis rankings issued on Monday, and Czech Tomas Berdych climbed the places the day after lifting the Beijing trophy.
Czech Tomas Berdych has defeated Croatian Marin Cilic 3-6 6-4 6-1 to win the men's China Open.
The victory lifts Berdych past Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to No.7 in the ATP world standings and gives the Czech valuable points toward the season-ending World Tour Finals.
It was the third-seeded Berdych's first final of the season after losing in six semi-finals and his first ATP title since Munich in 2009.
Djokovic has 14,220 points to command the rankings ahead of Spain's Rafael Nadal (10,375) and Roger Federer of Switzerland (8,380). Berdych moved from 10th to seventh with 3,230 after winning his first title in more than two years on Sunday.
