Berdych wins China Open
Third seed Tomas Berdych ended a two-year title drought on Sunday with a 3-6 6-4 6-1 victory over Croatian Marin Cilic at the China Open.
Czech Berdych, 26, made a nervous start in Beijing, giving up a break to his 23-year-old opponent on his way to losing the first set, before clicking into gear in the second set with five aces.
From there Berdych was never headed, and he broke world number 25 Cilic twice in the third set to comfortably win his first title since Munich in 2009, when he defeated Russian Mikhail Youzhny in the final.
It was also Berdych's first final of the season, although he had made it to six semis, with the last final he contested his losing effort against Rafael Nadal in the 2010 Wimbledon decider.
Sunday's win improved Berdych's record for 2011 to 47-18.
