UPDATE... The event with Tomas was cancelled due to Hurricane Irene
The U.S. Open tennis tournament is bracing for Hurricane Irene.
The Saturday before the last Grand Slam tournament of the year is usually a busy, bustling day, with dozens of players practicing, and thousands of fans attending the celebrity-and-music-filled Arthur Ashe Kids' Day.
That event was cancelled Friday because of the approaching hurricane. Light rain Saturday forced players off the courts before noon.
U.S. Tennis Association spokesman Chris Widmaier says workers around the grounds are preparing by "taking away anything that was not secured to the ground."
Says five-time U.S. Open champion Roger Federer: "It's somewhat scary, you know, because we don't know how hard it's going to hit us."
