No. 4 seed Tomas Berdych against No. 8 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Berdych has made the quarter-finals for the first time in six appearances here;Tsonga is now into the final eight here for the second time in two appearances. All signs point to this being a close encounter - they both cruised in their first rounds but were pushed to three sets in their second rounds, their only previous match was very close (Berdych won, 6-4 in the third set) and they’ve both been playing well this year (Berdych is now 9-2, Tsonga is now 7-2).

Berdych illness hands Tsonga Rotterdam semi place

Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga reached the World Indoor tournament semi-finals without hitting a ball on Friday after fourth seed Tomas Berdych pulled out suffering with flu.


Tsonga will meet Ivan Ljubicic in Saturday's semi-final.


Holder Robin Soderling plays Russian Mikhail Youzhny and Marin Cilic takes on Victor Troicki in the remaining quarter-final ties.

Tsonga reaches semis in Rotterdam as Berdych pulls out

Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga reached the semi-final of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, as Tomas Berdych pulled out of the tournament due to illness without hitting a ball on Friday.


As authorities confirmed, Tomas Berdych is suffering with flu. Tsonga will meet Ivan Ljubicic in the semis, who defeated Marco Baghdatis with a 6-4 6-7 7-6(4) scoreline.
