Czech Davis Cup Team in Belgrade on Tuesday, September 14, 2010
Radek Stepanek and Tomas Berdych have provided the backbone of Czech Republic’s Davis Cup challenge in recent times and impressively guided the team to a runner-up finish in 2009.
The pair continued where they left off this year, too, winning all of their rubbers en route to a 4-1 victory over Belgium in the first round.
Stepanek, who took a three-year gap from playing Davis Cup before returning in 2007, knows that a big test lies ahead but is also confident that the away team can leave Belgrade with a win.
“Playing them in Serbia will definitely be tough because their fans will be standing behind them,” he said.
“They are playing in the World Group for the first time so definitely the people are pumped about it.
“But we have a great team and we believe in ourselves. We’ve been underdogs so many times, the same as we will be in Serbia, and we will try to use it to our advantage and do what we’ve done for the last two years.”
