The list of participants for the 44th ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament has been expanded with Tomas Berdych, David Goffin and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The current numbers 10, 11 and 12 of the World Tour ATP are added to the list on which the names of Wawrinka (3), Nadal (8), Thiem (9), and Haase (59) already shine. The tournament takes place from 13 to February 19, 2017 in Rotterdam Ahoy.
Tournament Director Richard Krajicek: "For many players the tennis season is the time to finalize their planning for next year. We are delighted to see that so many excellent players have included the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in their schedule. With former winner Tomas Berdych, David Goffin who is about to enter the top 10 and fans favorite Jo Wilfried Tsonga, we get a very strong addition."
Tomas Berdych is the fourth top-10 player announced for 2017. In 2014 he won the title in Ahoy, by beating Marin Cilic in the final. It is one of his 13 titles on the ATP World Tour. The 31-year-old Czech, fourth in the world in 2014, plays Rotterdam for the tenth time. After winning the tournament in 2014 he was runner-up in to Stan Wawrinka in 2015.
Our 25-year-old southern neighbor enters the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament for the fourth time. He didn’t get past the first round on three previous occasions in 2013, 2015 and 2016. In 2016, he lost in the tiebreak of the third set to Marcos Baghdatis.
Jo Wilfried Tsonga
The 31-year-old Frenchman is hunting for the 13th title in his career in Rotterdam. Remarkably, all his previous titles were won on hardcourt, the same surface as in Ahoy. In 2011 he was close, losing the final to Robin Söderling. In 2017, the crowd favorite plays the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament for the fifth time.
