Murray, Berdych And Thiem Lead Vienna Entry List

Great starting field presented. The trio will be joined by six top 20 players for the sixth edition of the ATP Erste Bank Open 500.

„With these great players, we’re advancing towards Grand Slam dimensions!“ Tournament director Herwig Straka couldn’t hide his delight about how the entry list for this year’s Erste Bank Open 500 from 22-30 October 2016 is sprinkled with superstars. The entry list, which will make the fans’ hearts beat faster, is headed by Scotsman Andy Murray, who rose to cult status for good after winning his home tournament in Wimbledon and the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Tomas Berdych (ATP 9), another player from the world’s Top 10, is seeded at number 2. The Czech is a direct competitor of local hero Dominic Thiem (ATP 10, seeded at 3 in Vienna) for a sport at the ATP World Tour Finals in London, starting at November 13 2016. The entry list has a multitude of more stars on tap, including Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (ATP 12), last year’s winner David Ferrer (ATP 13) from Spain, Robert Bautista Agut (ESP/ATP 16), French shooting star Lucas Pouille (ATP 18) and Pablo Cuevas (ATP 19) from Uruguay. Just imagine, that Croatia’s serving monster Ivo Karlovic won’t be seeded in Vienna, even though he is the number 20 in the world. This also goes for other well-known names like Bernard Tomic (AUS/ATP 21), Steve Johnson (USA/ATP-23), John Isner (USA/ATP 25), Feliciano Lopez (ESP/ATP 26), Gilles Simon (FRA/ATP 28), Sam Querrey (USA/ATP 29) and Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER/ATP 30). Altogether, the fans will have the opportunity to see no less than 16 of the world’s Top 30 at Austria’s biggest tennis tournament.
