Pruchya thrilled to get a few tips from Berdych

Thai No 2 Pruchya Isarow was thrilled to get a chance to hit with world No 7 Tomas Berdych ahead of their encounter tomorrow in the World Tennis Thailand Championship, running through Friday at Hua Hin Centennial Park.

Ranked a lowly 711 in the world, the 19-year-old young gun grabbed the opportunity to sharpen his skills against the Wimbledon finalist, who is one of six men competing in the exhibition, which starts today at 3pm and is being televised on True 2, True HD670 and Digital TV Channel 24.

"He is by far the highest-ranked player I have ever played against. I have played (world top 30) Taiwanese Lu Yen-hsun, but the match against Berdych will be very different and a whole new experience for me," said Prucha whose friendly against the Czech superstar is a "bonus" showdown for the tournament. World No 8 Milos Raonic of Canada, No 10 David Ferrer of Spain, No 19 John Isner of the US, No 20 Fabio Fognini of Italy and No 26 Richard Gasquet of France are the other players competing in the knock-out format.

"I'm really excited to practise with him and will be even more excited when we play the real match on Wednesday. Of course I'm not expected to beat him, but I will grab this opportunity to learn shot skills and techniques from a top player," said national player Pruchya.

Berdych arrived on Friday with supermodel girlfriend Ester Satorova, then got busy with a photoshoot for GQ magazine, wearing his sponsor H&M's outfits, before making time to knock up with Pruchya.

Also training at the Centennial Park yesterday was Italian couple Fabio Fognina, world No 20, and girlfriend and world No 13 Flavia Penetta, who won the WTA Bangkok Open seven years ago.

Berdych and Raonic are the top two seeds in the exhibition and receive a first-round bye. Berdych will play the winner between Frenchman Richard Gasquet, the 2012 Thailand Open champion, and world No 10 David Ferrer of Spain, who are due to face off at 5pm tomorrow. Meanwhile Raonic arrives this evening and will play the winner between towering American John Isner and Fognini, whose match is due at 7pm tomorrow.
