International Premier Tennis League 2014 in Singapore

The International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) will start its Singapore leg on Tuesday night at the Indoor Stadium, having concluded the debut leg in Manila, Philippines on Sunday.

The much-hyped tournament aims to combine tennis and entertainment in a completely new concept via a series of fresh initiatives, such as a “Shot Clock” between points and a new scoring system.

However, the Singapore leg has lost some of its glamour as stars like Federer, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Genie Bouchard, Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova will not be here.

Despite this, and the fact that the matches will be held on weekdays, ITPL COO Eric Gottschalk is expecting close to a full stadium for the opening day.

“The venue looks amazing and ticket sales have picked up; there are still a few tickets left but we are expecting a full venue tomorrow and a similar atmosphere to the Philippines,” he said.

Singapore Slammers coach Joshua Eagle:

“We’ve learnt a lot from the last three days [where]we lost a few really close points that were pivotal and really tuned the match, so we are hoping that luck is on our side [this time],” the Australian said.
