Tournament Highlights:

* The 24-year-old Czech Republic native is the first Czech-born player to reach the final here since 1989 when Ivan Lendl captured the title (also won in ’86)…His previous best result was the semi-finals two years ago (l. to No. 2 Nadal 76(6) 62)…He has a 13-5 career mark

* The last player outside the Top 10 to reach the final here was No. 31 Nadal in ’05 (l. to Federer)…The last winner outside the Top 10 was No. 18 Jim Courier in 1991

* En route to the final, has beaten Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker 63 64, Argentine Horacio Zeballos 64 75, World No. 1 Roger Federer 64 67(3) 76(6), saving one match point, No. 10 seed Fernando Verdasco 46 76(5) 64 in a two hour, 51-minute battle and No. 5 seed Robin Soderling 62 62…Has saved 24 of 30 break points in the tourney (holding 56 of 62 service games)

2010 In Review:

* The No. 2 player from the Czech Republic (behind No. 18 Stepanek) is appearing in his first ATP World Tour final in seven tournaments this season and owns a 17-6 match record, with all but one match coming on hard courts…This is his 10th career ATP World Tour final (5-4), his second ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title match (won ’05 Paris) and his first final in the U.S.

* He will move from No. 20 to around No. 15 by reaching the final and around No. 13 if he wins the title

* In his last tournament in Indian Wells, he reached the quarter-finals (d. No. 12 Verdasco in 3rd Rd., l. to No. 3 Nadal)

* He helped his country to a 4-1 first round Davis Cup win over Belgium (on clay), defeating O. Rochus in straight sets in the opening rubber and winning the doubles (w/Stepanek) in similar fashion

* He opened the season by reaching the semi-finals in Brisbane (l. to eventual champ Roddick) and followed with opening round loss in Sydney (l. to Luczak after bye) and 2nd Rd. at Australian Open (l. to Korolev)

* Has a 64-45 career match record and his best result was the title in Paris in 2005 (d. No. 10 Ljubicic in five sets)…This is his second final…Also a semi-finalist three other times – ’06 Madrid, ’07 Monte-Carlo and ’08 Miami and quarter-finalist on five other occasions
