After receiving a first-round bye, Tomas will play Alexandr Dolgopolov who beat Kevin Anderson on Tuesday. They have played against each other twice before on hard court, Tomas won both times.

Berdych recovered from a break down early in the first set to outplay Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-3,6-4. Still searching for his first title of 2013, the World No.6 Czech is a three-time Rogers Cup quarter-finalist.
