2013 Queen's Quarter-finals: Tomas Berdych vs Marin Cilic

It’s day five and the quarter-finals at the Aegon Championships at The Queen's Club.


The defending champion Marin Cilic will take on the No.2 seed Tomas Berdych. The Czech leads their head-to-head 4-1, but this is their first clash on grass and Cilic has been improving with every match, winning five straight games to take down Feliciano Lopez in the previous round.

On Friday play begins at 12.30 pm on Centre Court with second seed Tomas Berdych against defending champion Marin Cilic followed by four time winner Lleyton Hewitt against Argentinian third seed Juan Martin Del Potro.

Defending champion Marin Cilic upset second-seeded Tomas Berdych 7-5, 7-6 (4) to reach the Queen's Club semifinals on Friday.


The fifth-seeded Croatian faced a break point at 4-4 in the first set. But Berdych netted his return, and Cilic failed to convert two set points at 5-4 before Berdych made a forehand error on a third break point at 6-5.


In the second set, Berdych held one break point at 2-2 and another at 4-4. But Cilic once again held off the threat before claiming victory in the tiebreaker.

MATCH REPORT


Marin Cilic, the No. 5 seed, despatched Tomas Berdych in straight sets in the first match of the day on Friday at The Queen’s Club.


The defending champion upset the No.2 seed and remains on course to retain the trophy he lifted last year.


The Croatian defended a break point at 4-4 in the first set when Berdych netted the return. It was another unforced error from the world No.6 that gave Cilic the first set 7-5.


The second set stayed on serve as Cilic held off two break points from Berdych before holding his nerve to take the contest in a tie break 7-6(4).
