Spain took a stranglehold on the Davis Cup final against the Czech Republic after David Ferrer's late heroics.
World No 2 Rafael Nadal eased past Tomas Berdych 7-5 6-0 6-2 in the opening rubber in Barcelona.
Ferrer then battled back from two sets behind to beat Radek Stepanek 1-6 6-2 6-4 6-4 8-6 in a four-hour epic as Spain closed in on becoming the first team to defend the title since 1998.
Berdych conceded that he was outplayed after a tight first set. "You have to congratulate Rafa. The way in which he played those last two sets was simply incredible. It's tough to lose 13 games on the trot. I tried to find some answers to come into the net a little more but nothing really worked."
