BNP PARIBAS MASTERS 2012

Berdych To Play Simon

Paris, France

by ATP Staff | 01.11.2012

Fifth-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych, the 2005 champion, will play Gilles Simon of France in the quarter-finals. Berdych withstood 15 aces from South African Kevin Anderson to record a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory in two hours and 13 minutes on Thursday. Berdych improves to a 59-19 match record on the season and will join Murray next week at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

Simon advanced when Kei Nishikori, the No. 15 seed, pulled out ahead of their match with a right ankle injury. Nishikori personally apologised to Tournament Director Guy Forget for withdrawing from the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament.
