2009 Tokyo Quarter-Final: Tomas Berdych vs Mikhail Youzhny

Five of the top eight seeds are in the quarter-finals of the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships on Friday, led by No. 2 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, No. 4 Gael Monfils, No. 5/defending champion Tomas Berdych,  No. 7 Stanislas Wawrinka and No. 8/ 2001 winner Lleyton Hewitt. The other quarter-finalists are qualifiers Ernests Gulbis and Edouard Roger-Vasselin, and Mikhail Youzhny. In the opening match, Roger-Vasselin, who is making his ATP World Tour quarter-final debut, takes on Hewitt for the first time. In the second match, Youzhny takes a 5-4 lifetime lead against Berdych but the Czech Republic native has won the past two meetings. In the third match, Tsonga, who is 2-0 against Gulbis, meet for the second straight week. In Bangkok, the Frenchman prevailed in three tie-break sets. In the final match, Wawrinka looks for his second win in as many meetings over Monfils.

Tomas lost to Mikhail Youzhny... too bad, he had 3 set points in tie-break of 2nd set



As Youzhny celebrated by 'shooting' at the crowd with his racquet, Berdych left his in a mangled heap after smashing it on the floor in disgust as he slumped into his chair.
