Czechs Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek, the No. 5 seeds, were locked in a battle with Brazilians Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares at 18-all in the third set when play was suspended for the day.

Berdych and Stepanek had completed their first-round match earlier Tuesday, defeating Italians Daniele Bracciali and Andreas Seppi 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.

Czech Republic's Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek celebrate a point over Brazil's Marcelo Melo and Bruno Suares during their men's doubles tennis match at the All England Tennis Club in Wimbledon, southwest London, on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Day 4: Olympic wrap-up

On a rain affected day at the Olympic Tennis Event, there were no major shocks as the top seeds all advanced to the third round. However, the biggest story unravelled on No. 1 Court where Jo-Wilfried Tsonga came through a record breaking match against Milos Raonic 63 36 25-23.

Tsonga triumphed in a marathon three-setter that lasted nearly four hours. The second round clash broke the record for being the longest best-of-three-sets match - 66 games - in Olympic tennis history, eclipsing the previous longest - 63 games - which was set at Seoul 1988. It was also the longest ever final set - 48 games - at the Olympics.

On the doubles court, both sets of reigning champions, the Bryan brothers and Williams sisters, advanced to the third round, while there were four players out on No. 16 Court trying to compete with Tsonga and Raonic. The doubles second round fixture between Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek of Czech Republic and Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares of Brazil ended 61 46 18-18 when bad light called a halt to proceedings. Play will be resumed on Wednesday!
