Tomas got to the second round of the US Open by beating Wayne Odesnik. He will take on qualifier Horacio Zeballos from Argentina. They have never played against each other before. Tomas said in interview: " I don't know him, never heard his name. I was told he is playing with success on the Challenger Tour, mainly in South America. He is certainly good on clay. I expect he will play super agressively. Anyway, the most important thing is that I play and improve my game. This way it should be fine"

Tomas Berdych def. Horacio Zeballos 6-3, 6-7(3), 7-6(2), 6-2
I thought it would have been easier seeing that after only 12 minutes of game, Tomas was already leading by 3-0. He easily won the 1st set 6-3. But... with Tomas you never know the scenario in advance. The second set went to a tie-break and Tomas lost that tie-break 6-7(3). The third set went to a tie-break as well. Tomas won the 3rd set 7-6(2). They are now playing for 2 hours and 25 minutes when the 4th set is to start. That Zeballos is a tough opponent! Allez Tomas, keep on fighting... I want you to go through to the 3rd round of US Open this year. The 4th set starts. Lucky Tomas could break early, he is now leading 2-1, serving for 3-1, *my fingers crossed*... yeah he could do it 3-1* and time for another break possibility. Go Tomas Go! Take it!... magnifique. Tomas is now up 4*-1... they are approaching the 3 hours of match! Allez... a last effort... Tomas's leading 5-1*... it sounds good. So far Tomas has fired 16 aces. Tomas has a first mp on Zeballos' serve... but like I said the Argentine is a tough opponent... 5*-2 On we go! Tomas serving for the win... 0*-15, 15*-15, 30*-15, 30*-30, Zeballos never gives up! 40*-30 MP, deuce, Adv. Berdych MP, deuce, MP... yeah VIC-TO-RY! 6/2. A match of 3 hours, 179 minutes exactly. Rest well Tomas for the match against hard-hitter Gonzo, I guess.
